Bradley REACH Interview: Sarah Rawlings

Featuring Sarah Rawlings, LCSW

Q: What do you love most about Bradley REACH?

It is honestly very hard to pick one thing I love the most about REACH. The REACH team is by far the best clinical staff I have ever had the pleasure to work with. They set the bar so high and I just really appreciate being able to be a part of this team! However, beyond that, I love that it is virtual. In the panhandle of Florida (Tallahassee), I like to say we live in a therapy desert. We are so thirsty for resources here that the entire community, including clinicians, suffers. I love being able to bring this resource to the kiddos and families in my community (and in the future, the whole state).

Q: What’s the best thing about virtual care?

Well, see above! Virtual is amazing because we can serve a WHOLE group of kids and families that usually fall through the cracks. Being flexible in literally meeting the clients where they are at has had a huge impact on enrollment and success in this program.

Q: What can we all do to improve teenagers’ mental health?

Connection, connection, connection. I am a firm believer that no matter the teen/family/school/community/coworker/situation, if you lead with connection then you will find yourself moving towards progress. As humans I feel that connection of any size... whether it is figuring out you both love T. Swift or you both hated math class or you both come from families that struggle with boundaries... can help to guide ALL of your interactions to a more positive and helpful place. (These may or may not be personal experiences). To bring it all back together, that is another thing that is so great about REACH! The amazing staff always leads with connection, so much so that it doesn't even matter that it is a virtual program with staff scattered across the country. The kids and families feel closer than ever to care, and that is more than half the battle!
