Bradley REACH Interview: Diane McLean
Featuring Diane McLean, PhD, MD
Q: What do you love most about Bradley REACH?
I love the team-based cross-discipline approach that is central and critical to all the work we do in the Bradley REACH PHP. Our team-based model of care is unique and allows us to make real-time collegial collaborations that can immediately have a positive impact on patient care.
Q: What’s the best thing about virtual care?
Virtual care allows us to work with adolescents where they live. We can see the details of their home environment and can better understand aspects of their personality and mental status in how they decorate and take care of their personal space, how they interact with pets, and how they interact with their caregivers in a more relaxed setting than a hospital environment can provide. We are also able to significantly reduce our no-show rate as kids and parents don’t have to travel to the hospital to receive care, thus we can provide a more consistent, intensive partial hospital level of care.
Q: What can we all do to improve teenagers’ mental health?
It is imperative that we all address the stigma around mental health that still surrounds adolescents and their families today. We need to foster innovative and supportive systems of care that bring together mental health providers, schools, and primary care providers to reach teenagers where they feel most safe and comfortable to help them reach their goals and thrive.
